Who the hell is Diane Nash?

“Who the hell is Diane Nash?” Attorney General Robert Kennedy asked his assistant after receiving word that a bus full of Freedom Riders had been firebombed by a white mob in Alabama.  “I understand that there are more Freedom Riders coming down from Nashville. Call and let her know what’s waiting for them.” Nash had organized the Freedom Rides, and said that she wouldn’t ask the Freedom Riders to turn around.

“Young woman, do you understand you’re going to get someone killed?”
